NESHKORO
A Community Built on Character,Distinction, Service, and Growth!
The earliest settlers began arriving in Neshkoro in the mid 1800’s. The lush land that leads to the beautiful banks of the White River provided a great refuge to the settlers. Located northwest of the Fox River, this land was soon to become an ideal destination for the area’s first industry—a foundry—which was preceded by a mercantile store, harness shops, a woolen mill and gristmill, hotels and diners, a meat market, even brick manufacturers. All earned a distinction for service and growth.

Future generations have come to enjoy the challenge of updating such traditions. On any random evening you might find yourself drawn to its charm. From a hillside audience in lawn chairs and on blankets, their faces glowing with the sunset over the pond, to a group of barefoot kids parading across the park in anticipation of its display of firework festivities, Neshkoro is a community with an atmosphere of excitement, support, and vision. Here, bed and breakfast establishments, crafters, fisheries, musical groups, galleries, and art studios are all eager to provide entertainment to you and your family. Spending some time with us will only allow
you to appreciate the thousands of hours of work invested by hundreds of people. Our civic, religious, and volunteer organizations all play a vital role in our community, with great pride and abundant character.

beginner, you will have every aspect of your sporting desire met. No matter what the season, from waterfowl, to whitetail deer, to fishing of all sorts in all seasons, we‘re an area that people have come to count on.

As the mid-1800’s came around, so did the famous naturalist John Muir, his father, and his brother. Historically, Muir’s Fountain Lake Farm was founded over 140 years ago. Take yourself back to re-live just what Muir accomplished. As a boy, he settled here. It was in our area that the roots of his conservationism were planted. Our hills, valleys, lakes, and streams fed Muir’s passion for nature. And our area became the springboard for his leap into manhood, where that passion begot such an unselfish and foreveradmired life.
As a man, Muir studied nature like no other had before him. In the middle of the Civil War, he traveled to see the ever-so-busy Abraham Lincoln. He requested his attention even then to preserving many of the parks that we, so often, still have the pleasure of enjoying to this day.
As a man, he also founded the Sierra Club a club which holds the highest honor among all
charitable causes for thrift and effective action.

Our area takes great pride in knowing that it was from our roots that this mighty cause grew. Now we look forward to bringing you the results of the singular life that John Muir lived.
Come and see all that he has wrought. Walk where he walked. Dip your hand in the waters he fought so hard to preserve. Breathe the air that his trees have so graciously filtered for you.
Yes, visit our area and come away a different person.
